Multi use games areas have always been a popular sports solution for schools, councils, leisure centers and other recreational spaces. They are a cost effective solution as multiple sports can be played on one pitch and when installed with a synthetic surface the pitch can be used all year round in any weather conditions.
What is the best surfacing for a MUGA?
There are several different options and variants when choosing your surfacing these can include budget restrictions, sports the MUGA will be used for and playing qualities.
Polymeric Type 3 and Type 4 Multi Use Games Area Surfacing
We recommend Polymeric rubber type 3 and type 4 surfacing for heavy duty areas. This surfacing meets the performance requirements classified by Sport England in conjunction with ‘The Sports and Play Construction Association’ (SAPCA).
Type 3 Polymeric surfacing has great non-slip properties and is ideal for tennis and netball whereas Type 4 delivers a porous resilient surface which is suitable for multi-sports including football, basketball and hockey. Coloured line markings are then added for the chosen sports.
Artificial grass
Why not consider Artificial grass for your MUGA? Artificial grass surfaces are a versatile alternative for a multi use games area surface. Often referred to as a 3G grass surface, there are various types of artificial grass and we can help you choose the best surface for your space. Matchplay 2 Grass
Matchplay 2 Grass offers a hard wearing profile, tight knit needle punched surface and excellent wet slip properties which keeping the natural feel of a grass surface. As such, it is suitable for netball, tennis and football which make it ideal for Councils, Schools and any Sports facilities due to its low maintenance requirements.
Matchwinner Velour Grass
Matchwinner Velour grass provides a tough, durable surface with good slip resistance and excellent ball bounce properties with a softer under foot feel than other artificial grass. Matchwinner is best suited for 5-a-side-football, basketball, tennis and netball.
3G Grass
A popular choice for MUGA surfacing this tufted artificial grass has a sand and rubber infill. It is UV stable and offers an outstanding surface for football, meeting FIFA 1 star equivalent standard.
